With handmade bathroom tiles you can have all sorts of fun.
I can design hand decorated tile walls of swimming sea fish for the shower, with a dado and bath splashback of fish tiles to match, or something minimal for a rural cottage for example- a stylish handmade clay tile border with an inset handmade tile mosaic panel very simply set in standard white tiles .

How about a simple basin splashback in handmade tiles –
just simple lines of colour, or go wild with shell tiles, or the odd lobster tile, or prancing satyrs!
